Camargue 2013: Day 2 of Camargue photography workshop: Landscape & location documentary

We were up and out at 6am ready for a 45 min drive up the coast to Sete where we spent a few hours photographing the sun rise (sun? What sun?!) over the oyster beds, a storm was brewing and there were some dramatic cloud formations gathering. All photos shown are from iPhone – the pro camera ones to follow after return to UK & processing.

The sky was very grey but at least it wasn’t raining as we had been told to expect a downpour.

We were treated to fresh oysters & wine ….for breakfast (!) (ok I admit it, I chickened out of the oysters but thought it rude to refuse the wine too…)

Our friendly oyster fisherman.

View ftom the fisherman’s hut.

We then headed up the coast a little way to Mez …. a bit of coast with oyster businesses hard a work …. sadly only a few active – the rest were derelict & decaying:

End of the line – where the oysters are delivered to the processors.

You can see Barbara’s (one of our lovely delegates) reflection if you look carefully:

Sad decay of businesses:

The weather was kind to us – just a few mild showers. By 1pm the wind was starting to get quite strong so we headed back to Aigues Mortes – back by 1.45 & just time for a quick pizza lunch at a local restaurant before they closed for the afternoon .

My main 2hour presentation followed – which again seemed to go down very well – lots of inspired people & lovely comments & all very eager to get out onto the salt marshes tomorrow morning before dawn ready to photograph the stunning wild white horses of the Camargue & the Gardian ‘cowboys’.

Tonight’s dinner of tuna steak was finished with ‘fig crumble’:

We all worked so hard today … it was a very long day, so we feel we earned our wine at breakfast …. lunch…. afternoon ‘break’ and dinner (ooops!!)
Seriously though, busy day, lots of fun, lots learned by delegates, all fired up and motivated, and for me satisfaction to pass on my knowledge & help some lovely people and also it’s been great to get away and get the creative side of me functioning again properly after such a tough six months. I feel as though my mojo is back properly with my creative side…. in fact I feel as though it’s entering a higher level. 🙂
